Ingredients
Scale
1 cup unsalted butter
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
4 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, melt the butter and then mix in the granulated and brown sugars until well combined.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla.
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Spread half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan, smoothing it out evenly.
For the cookie layer, in another bowl, beat together butter and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well, then gradually add flour, baking soda, and salt.
Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie layer and spread carefully.
Top with the remaining brownie batter and swirl gently with a knife.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
Notes
For a festive twist, add nuts or dried fruits to the brownie batter.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
